The Government of Telangana has signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding with AI computing company Blaize to launch the Telangana AI Innovation Hub and advance applied artificial intelligence initiatives across public sector and infrastructure use cases.
The MoU was signed earlier this week at the World Economic Forum in Davos and outlines the intent to establish the Telangana AI Innovation Hub as part of the state’s broader ambition to position itself as a global centre for applied, industry-driven AI.
Under the agreement, Blaize intends to establish a research and development centre in Telangana focused on advanced AI computing. The proposed R&D presence is expected to support applied research, pilot programs and deployment-oriented AI initiatives aligned with the state’s strategic priorities and government-led projects.
The MoU sets out a framework for collaboration between Blaize and relevant line departments and ministries within the Government of Telangana. Potential initiatives identified under this framework may progress to pilot or implementation stages, subject to applicable approvals, guidelines and project-specific agreements. Any such projects would be governed by separate contracts defining scope, funding and deliverables in line with state policies and regulations.
The Telangana AI Innovation Hub is envisioned as an enabling platform to accelerate applied AI across public services, infrastructure modernisation and real-world deployments. Through TAIH, the state aims to combine advanced AI compute capabilities with domain-specific applications to support economic development, sustainability and improved public outcomes.
Sanjay Kumar, special chief secretary for the Department of Information Technology, Electronics and Communications and the Department of Industries and Commerce, said the state views AI as a force multiplier for governance, sustainability and economic growth. He said the collaboration provides a structured pathway to responsibly evaluate and deploy AI-driven pilots across critical sectors.
Blaize co-founder and chief executive officer Dinakar Munagala said the MoU represents a step toward translating AI innovation into scalable, real-world outcomes. He said Telangana has demonstrated a clear vision for applied AI across infrastructure, sustainability and public services, and that Blaize looks forward to supporting pilot and deployment-focused initiatives through its intended R&D presence and collaboration with TAIH.
Phani Nagarjuna, chief executive officer of the Telangana AI Innovation Hub, said the launch of TAIH marks a new phase in the state’s AI journey. He said the collaboration with Blaize is designed to strengthen the applied AI ecosystem by linking advanced computing platforms with government-led use cases, helping move promising ideas into pilots and, where appropriate, into operational deployments.
TAIH is an autonomous entity established by the Government of Telangana to support AI innovation, research and deployment. It operates across six strategic pillars spanning talent development, impact labs, digital infrastructure, capital formation, acceleration and global collaboration, with the aim of enabling AI solutions to progress from concept to population-scale implementation.
