Woolworths launches mini supermarket at Black Mountain School

Fujitsu has announced the third mini supermarket in a series of collaborations with Woolworths. In these community-focused collaborations, Fujitsu provides the point of sale technology underpinning mini supermarkets, which are located inside school grounds and used for educational purposes. Black Mountain School on Canberra’s northside caters to students with disabilities in years 7 to 12. It is the latest school to implement a mini Woolworths complete with working scanners and registers, giving students a taste of what it’s like to do their own shopping as well as work in a supermarket.

Clare Burden, VP Portfolios & Alliances, Fujitsu Australia and New Zealand, said, “Fujitsu is honoured to once again support Woolworths in such an important initiative, having previously been involved in mini supermarkets at St Edmund’s and St Gabriel’s schools in New South Wales. This initiative helps arm students with the knowledge and experience they will need to succeed in the workplace and post-school life. Providing a safe and secure, yet authentic experience to these students will help ensure that the next generation of young Australians can maximise their potential through the use of technology.”

Initiatives such as this project with Woolworths form an important part of Fujitsu’s ongoing commitment to improving society through active participation in community programs around the world. For example, at the end of 2020, Fujitsu was chosen for the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index for the 21st time. Companies are selected based on excellence in sustainability through the lens of governance and economics, the environment, and society. The mini Woolworths stores at Black Mountain School, St Edmund’s, and St Gabriel’s exemplify Fujitsu’s genuine enthusiasm for supporting its customers and suppliers in projects that contribute to a better world for everyone.

Clare Burden said, “Fujitsu believes in using technology to create a society where all people can participate to their full potential. Our purpose is to make the world more sustainable by building trust in society through innovation. Fujitsu is thrilled to have this opportunity to contribute proactively to the lives of the students at Black Mountain School by providing technology to support Mini Woolworths Black Mountain. As an organisation that promotes diversity and inclusion, it’s inspiring to be able to empower these students to maximise their potential. We’re looking forward to seeing Mini Woolworths Black Mountain flourish as it plays a vital role in the Black Mountain School community.”
