Adelaide University’s Computer Science Education Research (CSER) Group is launching a new program aimed at upskilling Australian teachers in artificial intelligence (AI), as part of a partnership with the Raspberry Pi Foundation.
CSER, based in the School of Computer Science, has provided open, online professional learning in digital technologies, AI, cybersecurity and mathematics for Australian teachers since 2014.
Under the new arrangement, CSER will bring the Experience AI program to Australia. The program was developed by the Raspberry Pi Foundation and Google DeepMind, and is funded by Google.org in Australia.
According to the release, the free teaching materials include lesson plans, slide decks, videos, student activities and assessments intended to introduce students to AI foundations. The resources also cover issues associated with AI systems, including data privacy, misinformation and fact-checking, deepfakes, and responsible use of generative AI.
CSER Project Lead and Senior Research Fellow Dr Rebecca Vivian said teachers would be supported to implement the Experience AI resources in alignment with the Australian Curriculum.
Raspberry Pi Foundation CEO Philip Colligan said the partnership aimed to help teachers “teach AI confidently” and support students to develop a foundational understanding of AI technologies.
CSER said the program will pilot in Australia as part of the Experience AI global network.
