Titomic Awarded Horizon Europe Grant

Titomic has been awarded a CoBRAIN grant for its Titomic Europe division as part of the European Union’s (EU) Horizon Europe initiative.

Titomic will receive €260,000 (~A$400,000) in CoBRAIN funding, to research and develop applications of artificial intelligence and machine learning within cold spray applications. The outcomes of the research will assist Titomic in optimising cold spray processes for manufacturing with new and existing materials and metals. The CoBRAIN program will develop novel hard metals for corrosion and wear resistance and validate an integrated computational-experimental material engineering workflow.

Ultimately, the grant funding will further assist Titomic in undertaking research and development to further heighten Titomic’s technological competitive edge. The first tranche of funding is expected to be received in FY23.

Horizon Europe is the largest EU research program to date, it aims to meet the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, tackle climate change, and increase the EU’s growth and competitiveness. Horizon Europe has a €95.5 billion budget and it runs from 2021 to 2027. Horizon Europe is a renewal of Horizon 2020, which ran from 2014 to 2020 and encouraged research and innovation across industry, academia, research, and other stakeholders.

This grant comes after recent success Titomic had with the International Partners in Glass Research (IPGR) network, developing and selling a system for the coating of glass moulds that is a breakthrough in automated cold spray by using artificial intelligence to enhance productivity and mitigate operating costs. Titomic hopes to replicate this product development success with CoBRAIN.

Herbert Koeck, Managing Director of Titomic, commented, “CoBRAIN brings together the brightest minds in the field of metal protection. With Titomic Europe’s extensive experience in low and medium pressure cold spray technology solutions, and proven wear resistance and corrosion protection capability, our involvement provides strong validation of Titomic’s cold spray reputation and capability in Europe and around the world. The grant builds on Titomic Europe’s success to date in glass mould coatings, with our automated cold spray solutions commercially adopted by the IPGR network. We look forward to developing novel adjacent applications with the support of CoBRAIN.”
