Australia Post has signed a multimillion-dollar, three-year agreement with Telstra to upgrade connectivity across almost 4,000 locations nationwide, in a move it says will strengthen the digital infrastructure supporting its retail and logistics network.
The agreement includes fibre upgrades at around 300 sites, expanded satellite connectivity for regional locations, and the rollout of Telstra’s Adaptive Networks Centre across Australia Post’s network.
Australia Post said the investment is intended to improve the technology supporting customer services, retail operations and parcel processing across post offices, delivery centres, data centres and corporate sites.
Under the deal, Telstra will provide access to its Adaptive Networks Centre, which Australia Post described as a platform designed to give users visibility and control over network services via a single interface.
Around 300 locations are expected to be upgraded to fibre-to-the-premises connectivity, while some additional regional sites will transition to Telstra satellite internet over the next 12 months. Australia Post said this builds on satellite connectivity previously deployed to more than 270 of its locations.
Michael McNamara, Australia Post Executive General Manager, Enterprise Services, said the agreement builds on Australia Post’s broader technology investment program aimed at improving operational performance across metropolitan, regional and remote Australia.
“Connectivity is fundamental to how Australia Post serves customers and keeps one of Australia’s largest retail and logistics networks moving every day,” McNamara said.
“As we continue to modernise our business and adapt to changing customer needs, investments like this help strengthen the technology foundations that support our people, operations and customers across the country.
“Telstra’s national reach and network capability, particularly in regional Australia, made them the right fit for this partnership. This investment strengthens our technology foundations and helps ensure we are well positioned to meet the needs of customers and communities now and into the future,” he said.
Oliver Camplin-Warner, Group Executive, Telstra Enterprise, said Australia Post would be among the first organisations to adopt Telstra’s Adaptive Networks Centre “at scale”.
“This partnership brings together two Australian organisations that have been connecting Australians for generations. We’re proud that Australia Post is one of the first organisations to adopt our Adaptive Networks Centre at scale, giving its teams greater visibility, flexibility and control today, and a platform that can evolve alongside the needs of its business and customers tomorrow,” he said.
