Array Technologies and Early Warning Network partner on automated hail protection for Australian solar projects

Array Technologies has partnered with Early Warning Network (EWN) to integrate hail intelligence into its SmarTrack Hail Alert Response platform for Australian solar projects, aiming to automate how sites respond to hail risk.

The collaboration will see Array use EWN as its hail intelligence provider in Australia, with EWN’s detection and forecasting feeding into SmarTrack. According to the companies, the system is designed to pre-emptively adjust solar modules to protective tilt angles before hail arrives, triggering movements automatically rather than relying on human decision-making.

“ARRAY’s approach to engineered simplicity combined with EWN’s hail intelligence platform unlocks new potential for Australia that will continuously benefit solar projects by equipping them with tools that make them adaptable when facing hail risks,” said Francesca Lucia Falcone, Business Development Director, APAC at Array. “This integration greatly improves the bankability of these projects, and ARRAY is proud to work with trusted collaborators such as EWN to help our customers deliver consistent, reliable energy throughout Australia.”

“Australian solar enters a new phase as EWN’s collaboration with ARRAY utilises data-driven intelligence to make real-time adjustments that enhance performance and longevity of projects nationwide,” said Henrik Thorup, Executive Chairman of Aeeris. “As solar projects continue to be deployed across Australia, this advancement will better help to protect these valuable energy assets on the grid from the rising risks of damaging hail. We look forward to working with ARRAY to ensure that solar power continues to play a valuable role for the Australian power grid through the built-in resilience needed to be protected from hail threats.”

The announcement comes as large-scale solar deployment expands into regions prone to severe convective storms. The companies cited industry reporting that Australia’s solar sector grew from under 350MW of deployed capacity in 2017 to more than 13GW by the end of 2025, with insurance underwriters flagging hail as a growing risk across that footprint.

EWN said its hail monitoring combines Australia-wide radar coverage, meteorologist verification and proprietary detection algorithms. Array said its trackers can provide stow behaviour in adverse conditions using AC grid-powered motors and wired communications, positioning the EWN integration as an additional layer of weather-driven response for asset protection and risk management discussions with insurers and financiers.

The release said the announcement was approved and authorised for release by the board of Aeeris Ltd.
