Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation has launched four dual-channel standard digital isolators designed for industrial equipment, under its DCL32xx00 Series. The company said volume shipments began on the day of the announcement.
According to Toshiba, the devices target applications where electrical isolation is used to help prevent failures and malfunctions caused by noise in equipment such as programmable logic controllers (PLCs), actuators and inverters. Isolation components are commonly used to transmit signals between circuits operating at different electrical potentials, such as high- and low-voltage domains.
Toshiba said the DCL32xx00 Series achieves a typical operating current consumption of 0.2mA per channel at 1Mbps and supports data rates up to 25Mbps. The devices are rated for a minimum isolation voltage of 3000Vrms and operate over a temperature range of -40°C to 125°C, with a supply voltage range of 2.25V to 5.5V.
The four parts comprise two unidirectional models—DCL320C00 and DCL320D00—configured with two forward channels, and two bidirectional models—DCL321C00 and DCL321D00—configured with one forward channel and one reverse channel. Toshiba positioned the range for I/O interface uses, including I2C and UART communications.
The company said the devices use its magnetic coupling isolation transmission technology and a new circuit design in the signal transmission section to reduce power consumption. Toshiba linked lower-power operation to broader efforts to cut system power consumption in pursuit of carbon neutrality goals.
The components are offered in an industry-standard SOIC8-N package, which Toshiba said is intended to support more compact equipment designs. Toshiba also said the DCL32xx00 additions expand its lineup of low-power standard digital isolators for industrial equipment to 10 products, following an earlier release of quad-channel devices in its DCL34xx0B Series.
