US technology and engineering company Emerson says its remote monitoring solutions have boosted the capabilities of India’s longest sea bridge, the recently completed Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Trans Harbour Link bridge.
Emerson’s Movicon NExT SCADA system and PACSystem controllers provide remote monitoring and control of all critical assets distributed across the 21.8-kilometre, six-lane highway bridge. The technologies allow for centralised monitoring and operation from a control room, aiding precision decision-making and troubleshooting that smooth out bridge operations.
The open software platform and controllers help bridge partners, Strabag Infrastructure and Safety Solutions Pvt Ltd., Efkon India, and Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority, integrate the bridge’s many digital systems and assets, such as compact substations, ring main units, access control systems, diesel generator and fire detection systems, and protect them with robust cyber security. In addition, the solution will enable real-time monitoring and control, data collection and analysis for metrics such as asset health, energy consumption and resource management.
The Movicon NExT SCADA system integrated high-tension, 11-kilovolt line SCADA assets located on both sides of the bridge. The PACSystem controllers are used for the building management system and ancillary systems such as fire, sewage, lifts, and water management.
The Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Trans Harbour Link bridge is 12th longest sea bridge in the world. Opened in January 2024, it links Mumbai and Navi Mumbai.
